BoT Meeting: Dickson's Candidature will Spell Doom for PDP, Opponents Warn
Following the outcome of the meeting of the PDP Board of Trustees (BOT) which was held with former President Goodluck Jonathan in Otuoke, Bayelsa state, on Sunday, opponents of state Governor, Seriake Dickson, have warned against his candidature of the party for the December 5 election, saying his candidature would spell doom for the party.
The strident warning was given by two former commissioners who served with him, Mrs. Marie Ebikake, and a former Commissioner for Transport and Mr. Ebikintin Diongoli, former Commissioner for Sports today, insisting that Dickson cannot be governor again on the platform of the party given the harm and disservice he has done to the PDP in the last few months.
According to Ebikake, who along with Diongoli was expelled from the party by its state chapter before their membership was restored, the meeting by the BOT of the party and
Jonathan
was not a reconciliatory one and that the duo of Dickson and former Governor
Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, were barred from participating due to their role in
the crises that rocked the party while the president was on holiday.
Ebikake, who was sacked by Dickson over her alleged loyalty to the Wife of the former President, Dame Patience Jonathan, insisted that the meeting considered that the alleged suspension and expulsion of some party members as a nullity because it never took place at all.
"Let us correct the insinuation in some quarters that other members of the Unity Forum and I were either expelled or suspended. There was no time they were sanctioned by the party.
“The BoT meeting with members of PDP Unity Forum was not called by Dickson to reconcile members. During the meeting, we told the BoT members that ahead of the governorship election in the state, there was the need for the party to be united. We asked them to recall all the members suspended or expelled unconditionally as they were sanctioned without reasons. They agreed with us and reversed all that.
"We also do not want Dickson to contest because it will spell doom for the party. The meeting was mainly from the national to address and reverse issues which the state has failed to address. They considered and rectified them," she said.
Ebikake, who commended the BOT members for intervening in the crisis in the state PDP admitted that prior to their intervention, the PDP was divided because of Dickson's alleged highhandedness and manipulation.
