No Going Back On Arrest Of Ekpeyong And Oke, Magu Declares

The acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, has declared that the anti-graft body would not back down on the planned arrest of a former Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Mr. Ita Ekpeyong; and a former DG of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ambassador Ayo Oke.
Magu made this known Wednesday as he spoke with State House journalists after he attended the inauguration of the committee on recovery of stolen assets by President Muhammadu Buhari at State House, Abuja.
He insisted that the law will take its course as he stressed that nobody, no matter how highly placed, is above the law.
He revealed that the agency has concrete evidence against the former heads of DSS and NIA declaring that the law would take its course.
 Ita is being investigated for offences bordering on alleged theft and diversion of public funds in the arms deal saga involving a former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.).
Similarly, Oke, who was recently sacked by President Buhari is being investigated for allegedly stashing away N13 billion in an apartment in Ikoyi, Lagos.
It had reported that armed guards of the NIA and DSS, on Tuesday, in Asokoro district, Abuja, prevented officials of the EFCC from arresting their former bosses residing in the area.

Population of Doctors in Nigeria Hits 74,543

  The number of registered medical doctors in Nigeria has risen to 74,543. According to the federal government statistics, as at 2018, the stock of professionally regulated health workers in Nigeria health sector has also recorded a significant increase. The population equates to 36.3 percent of medical doctors per 100,000 population (doctor to population ratio of 1: 2753). Fifty-nine percent of the registered medical practitioners were in good standing with 35 percent being females. UBEC Board Chairman, Daughter Freed from Captivity

The Board Chairman of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Dr. Muhammed Mahmoud, and his daughter were on Tuesday released by their abductors. Mahmoud, his daughter and several other travellers were abducted last Monday on the Kaduna-Abuja expressway when suspected bandits open fire at them. The UBEC boss’ driver was said to have been killed during the incident. There has been no information about other commuters who were abducted by the bandits. Mahmood's freedom was confirmed in a telephone interview by Hussaini Danladi, a relation, who said they were freed from captivity at about noon yesterday. Danladi, however, did not say whether a ransom was paid before their release.
