The regent of Oba community in Idemili North Local Government
Area, Chief Noel Ezenwa, has said his community will not adhere to calls by the
Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to boycott next month's presidential
election.
Ezenwa said politics plays a pivotal role in the life of
Nigerians, and that every eligible Nigerian should participate in the election
as their fate would henceforth be entrusted in the hands of those voted to
power during the election.
Speaking in his palace while welcoming the candidate of the
All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for Anambra Central senatorial election,
Senator Victor Umeh, on Tuesday, the regent said those making such call were
ignorant.
He said: "We must be around to make this critical
decision of who to vote. Politics is very pivotal to who rules us, and we must
endeavour to vote on that day.
"Whoever is doing Python dance or snake dance or those
who want a new country can leave us let us make the decision of who will rule
us. I urge all my subjects to go and vote, as we will not boycott the
process."
The regent who is also the son of the late traditional ruler
of Oba, Igwe Peter Ezenwa, stated in the midst of the community's leaders that
the community would vote Umeh, who they praised for his forthrightness and
strong voice in the Senate, despite a short stay.
Umeh, who also addressed the elders, said he would not let
the community down if elected.
He said: "I am a friend of the Oba people, and we will
always work to ensure that everything that accrues to you will be intact as far
as I am in the Senate."
