The Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II, is
set to host the first Yoruba Speaking International Olorisa Leaders’ conference
slated to hold at Ile-Ife from January 24 to 26, 2019.
The spiritual and cultural event was commanded by the
Ooni, who doubles as the Co-chairman of National Council of Traditional Rulers
of Nigeria (NCTRN).
The event also has the consent of the Alaafin of
Oyo, who is the Permanent Chairman of the Oyo State Council of Obas, His
Imperial Majesty, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi (III) and enjoys the endorsement of the federal
government through the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai
Mohammed.
The conference is scheduled to commence today with
the arrival of traditional rulers and spiritual leaders from Yoruba land to be
followed by the conference which will hold on January 25 by 10 a.m. at Oduduwa
Hall, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Osun State, and to be followed by a
reception at the Ooni’s palace.
According to the organisers, the closing session will
hold on January 26 at the Ife Grand Resorts in Ile-Ife.
According to the spokesman of the palace, Moses
Olafare, during the event, Yoruba speaking leading practitioners of ancient
Orisa traditions in Yoruba land will present their commendations and concerns
to facilitate a strategic direction for international development as being
advocated by the federal government.
Oba Ogunwusi would be expecting important
dignitaries across the world, particularly promoters of the rich cultural
values of the Yoruba nation, as laid down by Oduduwa to the iconic conference.
Delegates during the conference will reflect on the
era of Ooni Adesoji AdĂ©rèmĂ, Ooni Sijuade and that of Ooni Ogunwusi in order to
facilitate a strategic spiritual direction for the Yoruba race.
Spiritual
and traditional leaders are coming from Abidjan, Porto Novo, Mauritania while non-Yoruba
practitioners from Trinidad and Tobago have forwarded heir commendations and concerns
to be considered. It is being coordinated by the United Kingdom-based Erelu of
Ode-Remo in Ogun State,. Mrs. Alderman Lola Ayonrinde.
