Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has declared
that the state would not allow the use of N-power personnel as ad-hoc staff of
the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) during the 2019 general election.
This came as the Oba Ogbaland, Oba Chukumela Nnam
Obi II, warned politicians in the country against divisive actions and utterances
that could imperil the country’s democracy.
Addressing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)
campaign rally at Omagwa, Ikwerre Local Government Area on Monday, Wike said
the N-power list allegedly being compiled by the federal government for INEC’s
use was concocted to favour the All Progressives Congress (APC) with a view to
rigging the 2019 general election.
The governor said: "I hear INEC wants to use
N-power personnel as ad-hoc staff for the elections. This is a ploy to rig the
elections. N-power personnel will not be allowed to serve as INEC ad-hoc staff
in the state. If you bring them, we will chase them away.”
Wike said all Nigerians should share in the blame
of allowing a man without the knowledge of economy to emerge as president of
the country.
"The mass unemployment across the country is
due to the emergence of Muhammadu Buhari as
president. All Nigerians should share in the blame for their suffering.
We took our future and mandate and handed over to people who don't understand
job creation,” he said.
He charged the people to vote for the PDP presidential
candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, for his understanding of the economy and ability
to create jobs.
“All his life, Atiku has been involved in job
creation. He is one of the highest employers of labour in Nigeria,” he said.
While urging the people to vote for all PDP
candidates, Wike said during his second term, he would construct Omerelu and
Omagwa internal roads.
Meanwhile, former Rivers State Governor, Sir
Celestine Omehia, has described Wike as a true son of Ikwerre who has
transformed the state adding that the people are happy with him.
"Wike is our son in whom we are well pleased.
Ikwerre people are happy that you have kept your promises," he said.
Also, Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Area, Mr.
Nwanosike Samuel, has said the use of security agencies to rig elections in the
area will not work in 2019.
On his way to the campaign venue, Wike had to stop
his convoy to ensure the evacuation of the corpse of an accident victim killed
by a truck.
