Ahead of next Saturday presidential and National Assembly
elections, the
All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ovia North East Local
Government
Area of Edo State has accused Peoples Democratic
Party (PDP) of plot to disrupt next Saturday’s elections by procuring arms for some
thugs.
It said the plan is to scare genuine voters away
from polling units to enable the thugs force people to vote for Ms. Omosede
Igbinedion, who is seeking re-election to represent the constituency in the
House of Representatives.
Coordinator of the Dennis Idahosa Campaign Organisation,
Mr. Bishop
Imadin, who spoke at a press conference in
Benin-city on Tuesday, said the PDP was in a panic mood since the people have resolved to
vote for APC candidates.
Imadin, who urged security agencies to stop the
plan to unleash mayhem during the poll, said:
"While we are disturbed with this plan, we have appealed to
thousands of our supporters not to take laws into their hands; that they should
be law-abiding and go about the electioneering process in a peaceful manner.
"However, we want to believe that the security
agencies will take proactive measures to stop these people from carrying out
their plans.
"We have done our homework by taking campaigns
to every part of the
federal constituency, and our acceptability by the
people is overwhelming, we rely on the people’s mandate to win the election and
not the other way round.”
Spokesman for the state PDP, Mr. Chris Nehikhare,
who denied the allegations, urged security agencies to arrest and prosecute
anybody caught with arms during the elections.
Nehikhare also called for the arrest of anybody
caught procuring arms for thugs.
