Three persons may have been killed in the convoy of
Borno State Governor, Alhaji Kashim Shettima, during an attack by Boko Haram
terrorists.
The governor was traveling to Gamboru-Ngala on
political campaign when his large convoy ran into an ambush by the terrorists between
Dikwa and Gamboru on Tuesday evening.
Sources said there was an exchange of gunfire, and
three persons believed to be party supporters who had joined his convoy on the
campaign were killed in the gunfire.
Though, there is no official confirmation yet, the Deputy Governor,
Usman Durkwa, told our correspondent on Wednesday afternoon that he heard rumours
of the attack but due to bad mobile network along the axis, he was yet to get
in touch with his principal.
He equally revealed that he was at the moment waiting to
welcome the team to Maiduguri.
Also responding to journalists’ quest, the spokesman
of 7 Division of the Nigeria Army, Col. Isa Ado, said no information of such
attack was received from their formation around the area.
It can be reported that in the convoy were the
governor, the governorship candidate of the APC, Prof. Babagana Umara, and
other top politicians in the state.
