The national leader of the All Progressives
Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, on Wednesday charged the Lagos Igbo community
to vote for the party in next Saturday's presidential and other elections,
saying for whom much is given, much is expected.
Tinubu said this while addressing party faithful
after the meeting of the Lagos State Governor's Advisory Council's meeting held
at the state secretariat of the party in Ikeja.
According to party leader, "We appeal to our
Igbo brothers from the East that this is the state where you conduct your
business; your children are in our schools; we don't discriminate against them
in our WAEC fees. We don't discriminate against them in our NECO fees. We don't
discriminate against them in JAMB fees; even in our universities, they take the
benefit of our tuition and allowances and all that. Now this time, we say help
us, vote for us and our candidates," he told them.
He reminded the Igbo that he had been instrumental
in helping them grow their business, and some critical times, save such
businesses like the ASPAMDA business districts from demolition, stressing that
this is the time to reciprocate such kind gestures.
Tinubu told the Igbo people that "we are in
this together. We will know how many votes we will get from Ojo, Alaba,
Surulere, Amunwo-Odofin, Ajeromi-Ifelodun, including Oshodi. We don't discriminate
as we allow people do their businesses. I am the one who saved ASPANDA from
demolition. They are now x-rating our candidates and doing what they want, and
robbing insult on an injury, we know how to behave. We know how to
behave!" He warned.
The APC leader accused the opposition Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) of engaging in nefarious activities including arson in
Abia State.
He told the people that APC would win next elections,
saying he has nothing against the postponement of the election by the
Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) simply because they ran into
turbulent weather.
Tinubu, who assured the party members of victory,
urged them to be peaceful during the elections and pray for the successful
conduct of the elections.
He said: "This Saturday we will vote and we
will win, and we are not going to be violent. It’s PDP we are contesting aginst
and not INEC, so I don't have any issue with INEC.
“We are not fighting or insulting INEC, they have
the rule and law on their side, they have postponed the elections but anybody
can run into crisis, but our prayer is that INEC would land safely and happily
and APC will win the elections.
He said that despite the turbulence, he is
confident that the commission would deliver a free and fair election, even as
he made it clear that the opponent of the APC in the elections is not the INEC,
hence the commission's staff should never be treated as such.
The former Lagos State governor said unlike the
opposition, the APC has no standing army, rather "the PVC is our army. Use
it. You must go out to vote.”
