Kogi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party
(PDP) has said no amount of deception by the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led
administration of the state Governor, Yahaya Bello, would stop it from the
impending loss in the forthcoming November governorship election.
This is coming as Bello yesterday emphasised
tolerance, sacrifice and diversity in his Easter messages to mark the Christian
festival.
The party described the allegations of inability to
pay salaries as caused by the PDP as another lie by the state government.
The PDP in a swift reaction by the state Publicity
Secretary of the party, Prince Bode Ogunmola, described the allegation by
Kingsley Fanwo while on a TVC programme where he claimed that Bello administration
inherited five months unpaid salaries, as another lie from the pit of hell.
The PDP also called for the withdrawal of the title
of Evangelist on the DG media, lamenting that his actions sends negative
signals to the body of Christ, as the party urged him to seek forgiveness from
God and apologise to Kogi people for trying to be clever by telling lies.
According to the PDP, the immediate past
administration admitted owing one month’s salaries to Kogi workers, but left
the monthly allocation of November and December 2015 which was handed over to
the present administration on January 27, 2015.
The present administration, the PDP further pointed
out, also received the January 2016 allocation from the administration of Governor
Idris Wada, and wondered why the present administration would want to hide its
woeful performance as it couldn’t inaugurate a single project, by trying to
engage in blatant telling of lies.
The PDP lamented that the allocation of November
and December 2015, which could not be accessed by the immediate past
administration, only because Bello and the APC-led federal government prevented
him, was reflected in the handing over notes to the present administration,
wondering and lamenting why the wait till April 2019 before the APC administration
now woke up from its slumber, “just because of the imminent defeat that is staring
it in the face, as he just realised that it inherited five months salaries from
the past administration.”
The PDP described the APC-led administration as
fraudulent, having received bailout funds, Paris Club refunds on three
different occasion to settle shortfall of Kogi workers amounting to N5.7billion
for state workers and N45billion for local government workers, “but failed to
pay salaries, and fritted away the money into the pockets of a few, with the
thought to bamboozle Kogi people with lies.”
The opposition party disclosed that owing to the
least indebtedness of the state under Governor Wada administration, “it request
of N80billion got an approval of N50billion, an amount Bello collected and
wasted on the altar of seeking legitimacy, following his accidental emergence
as governor in 2016 without paying the arrears, yet owing preceding months.”
It stated that “the peoples verdict on the woeful
and abysmal performance of the APC-led administration is no longer a secret,
describing the one term administration of Bello as the worst ever since the state
creation, “with Kogi becoming a state where suicide, kidnapping, prostitution
and armed robbery thrive owing to the inept administration forced on the
people.”
Meanwhile, Bello yesterday emphasised tolerance,
sacrifice and diversity in his Easter messages to mark the Christian festival.
This was contained in a statement issued by the
Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Muhammed Onogwu.
The governor extended his best wishes to all
Christians and the Christian community on the occasion of Easter.
“I congratulate Christians on the successful
completion of the Lent and Easter celebration.
“This period reminds everyone of the sacrifice,
selflessness, tolerance and commitment of Jesus Christ.
"I call on Nigerians, especially Kogi people,
to reflect on the lessons of Easter and the teachings of Jesus Christ. We place
the utmost importance on the freedom in which all human beings can follow their
own religion, culture, and traditions freely, regardless of their religious,
cultural, or ethnic background as our civilization sees diversity as our
treasure,” he said.
He stressed that religious holidays are exceptional
days in which the bonds of fellowship and solidarity are strengthened and the
unity and sense of solidarity are reinforced, as he urged all Christians in
Kogi State and around the world to imbibe the spirit of sacrifice and peaceful
coexistence which defined the life of Jesus Christ more than ever before.
