The Department of the State Security (DSS) in Kano State on Monday  apprehended one Sule Arome, 29, from Kogi State, who has  been parading himself as Assistant Commissioner of the DSS, while recruiting new intakes.

The DSS officials, who paraded Arome in Kano, said they arrested him while raiding a black spot of criminal hideout on Hausawa Zoo Road, in the city, as he had already defrauded four persons through fake recruitment into the service.

The state security noted that Arome had collected N15,000 each from the four persons as recruitment fees; N6,000 for operational suits, and had also asked them to purchased training kits.

The Director of DSS in Kano, Alhassan Muhammad, alleged that the accused also directed his victims to reports to Kaduna State on January 25, 2020, where they spent three days at Kawo motor park wandering.

"We got the report when the victims returned from their unsuccessful trips to Kaduna, where we organised a country operative operations and raided the black spot, and eventually arrested Arome," he said.

The director noted that the accused had sent a call up text messages to his victims asking them to write their CVs using him as their Referee, also as an Assistant Commissioner of the DSS.

Arome, who confessed that he actually recruited four persons, added that he decided to do what he did because Hisbah had arrested him but he had to lie to them that he was truly an operative.

According to him, “I used the DSS to free myself from the Hisbah, and afterwards told those people where I went to buy cigarettes that I'm an Assistant Commissioner of the DSS and if anyone wants to joined the Service I will help him."

Arome said he regretted his actions and pleaded that he will repent if freed.

The DSS said Arome would be arraigned on Monday.
