Lagos Commuters Groan as Trailer Causes Traffic Gridlock on Ikorodu Road

The Ikorodu road of Lagos in the early hours of Tuesday morning was partially closed due to accident caused by trailer  while negotiating a U- turn, just before the BRT Bus-stop at Ketu.

Investigations revealed that the trailer mounted the road divider when negotiating the bend, which the driver blamed on poor visibility due to the weather.

Motorists plying the Ikorodu Road from Garage area bore the brunt of the incident as the gridlock extended from Ketu down to Mile 12, all the way to Garage in Ikorodu.

Lagosians were stuck in the snail-pace traffic as early as 5:30a.m., as they waited for the state government officials and Road Safety personnel to handle the situation.

One of the commuters, who spoke to journalists, Mrs. Chinwe Ezeoke said: "I left Ikorodu around 6:00a.m. and spent close to four hours, just to get to Obanikoro where I work. A lot of people came down at Mile 12 and headed back to Ikorodu to take the boat.

"It was when we finally got to Ketu that we realised what happened and the road was a bit free onwards, but the hours we spent on the road were pathetic as I resumed work late."

Although LASEMA, Police and Road Safety officials were at the scene, traffic was still moving at a very slow pace with people coming down at Mile 12, to continue their journey by foot.

At the time of filing this report, the damaged trailer was yet to be removed as the heavy duty truck was about to be towed, with the traffic on the Ikorodu Road still in a worrisome state.
