FG to Rehabilitate 414 Grazing Reserve Centres in Nigeria

In effort to end the frequent occurrences of clashes between farmers and Fulani herdsmen, the federal government has concluded arrangement to rehabilitate the 414 grazing reserve and stock routes in the country.

The National Coordinator Grazing Reserve Rehabilitation at the Federal Ministry of Agriculture Mr. Mahmud Ibrahim, disclosed this on Thursday during the advocacy sensitization and mobilization programmer on Rehabilitation and Development of grazing reserve and stock routes in Nigeria at Wawazange Grazing Reserve, Dukkku Local Government Area of Gombe state.

He said government would not rest until the lingering crisis between farmers and Fulani Cattle breeders is put to an end..

According to him, the project which is been carried out by the federal government through the federal Ministry of Agriculture is  in conjunction with Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria in order to curtail the menace that affect the peace among farmers and herdsmen in the country.

He also disclosed that ten states in the country have already been mandated to begin the rehabilitation of the grazing reserve and stock routes without any delay.

National Secretary of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria Mr. Baba Usman Ngajarma, appreciated the effort made by the federal government and  said that the project will go a long way in sensitizing both farmers and herdsmen against future clashes.

He therefore called on them to shun violence and embrace one another even as he said there would be no meaningful development without peace among people.

The National Secretary enjoin both the two parties to as a matter of urgency, liaise and report any suspicious movement to security agencies within the area.           

Also speaking, the Gombe State Commissioner for Animal Husbandry and Nomadic Affairs, Mr. Sammy, Barka urged the citizen of the state to desist from encroaching into grazing reserves and stock routes.

According to him, encroaching in grazing reserves and stock routes is causing disharmony and threatening the peaceful co-existence of people of the State.

“I would like to appeal to the cattle breeders to control their animals and not to allow them destroy farms”, he said.
