President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday directed the immediate disengagement from service of the former Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Pension Reforms, Mr Abdullahi Abdulrasheed Maina, a presidential statement said.
In a memo to the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, the President equally demanded a full report of the circumstances of Maina’s recall and posting to the Ministry of Interior, the statement by Femi Adesina, the president’s spokesman said.
The report is to be submitted to the office of the Chief of Staff to the President, Mallam Abba Kyari, before the end of work today, Monday.
Maina had previously been dismissed from service in 2013 when he absconded from the civil service following an indictment for his alleged role in a massive pension fraud at the defunct presidential task force on pension reforms.
A Senate Joint Committee investigating the fraud issued a warrant for his arrest after he failed to honour the committee’s invitations. He subsequently went into hiding after the police and EFCC declared him wanted and sued the Senate and Inspector-General of Police.
As at the time Maina was secretly reinstated and posted to the Ministry of Interior he was still wanted by the EFCC, according to information on its website. In fact, the EFCC on Sunday declared his reinstatement a sabotage to the anti-graft war.
