IG Idris Was Not Queried By President Buhari, Nigerian Police Insist

The Nigerian police have denied that President Muhammadu Buhari queried the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, following revelations that the police chief ignored a presidential directive to move to Benue State.
A statement released by the presidency and later posted on a Twitter handle @NGRPresident last Tuesday night said the President asked the police chief to explain why he flouted his order to relocate to Benue State in the wakes of deadly attacks on villages that had left hundreds dead since January 1.
“Pres @MBuhari today summoned the Inspector-General of Police to explain his flouting of the presidential order to remain in Benue State. The President has also asked for a comprehensive report on Police Operations in the affected States,after which further decisions will be made,” the statement said.
But as many were expecting the outcome of the query, reports emerged that the police IG did not receive any demand for explanation in a jarring contradiction of the presidency.
The police challenged “anyone” claiming the IGP was queried by the President to produce an evidence.
“The IGP was not queried,” police spokesperson Jimoh Moshood told THISDAY over the weekend.
“Anybody that said the IGP was queried by the president should bring the copy of the query, let us display it.”

Drug Insecurity: House Urges FG to Fund Indigenous Drug Research

The House of Representatives on Tuesday urged the federal government to invest more in the National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development in order to encourage local and indigenous research. The House also urged the government to revisit the National Drug Policy as a way to promote and boost the medical industry. It directed its Committees on Health Institutions, Health Care Services and Science and Technology to organise a round table discussion to chart a probable course for the development of locally made drugs. Court Stops National Assembly From Taking Over Bauchi Assembly

As the National Assembly received a report from the committee it sent to Bauchi State to probe the leadership crisis rocking the state assembly since its inauguration last month, the state high court on Monday issued an order of interim injunction ordering that the present Speaker and Deputy Speaker, Abubakar Suleiman and Danlami Kawule respectively,   should continue leading the assembly pending the determination of the suit before it. Justice Muazu Abubakar, who issued the order, fixed October 3, 2019, for hearing of the motion and substantive application filed by the speaker, deputy speaker and other 11 members of the assembly who participated in the assembly election.
