The Coalition of Northern Groups in Kano State has vowed to initiate a bill that would enhance domestication of federal character principle in the state to compel all private businesses and financial institutions such as banks and private schools to consider Kano indigenes in their employments.

The National Coordinator of the coalition, Balarabe Rufai, alongside the state Coordinator of the coalition, Sani Yusuf Salihu, disclosed this to journalists on Monday in Kano.

They also decried the high rate of youths unemployment among Kano indigenes, the situation which makes the state tops the statistics of drug abuse across Nigeria.
The Coalition also  lamented that despite the juicy promises made by the Senate during the public hearing in view of addressing the alarming rate of drug abuse through youths employment approach, the situation is even getting worse beyond imagination.

"Month after the Senate hearing alarming rate of youths unemployment keeps rising in states of the North especially in Kano. We are concerned because with the current rise in unemployment level comes a commensurate rise in idleness and consequent restiveness among the youths across the state," he said.

The National Coordinator, who described as worrisome, the situation whereby non indigenes dominate Banks, private schools and some other viable businesses in the state.

He pointed out that the disturbing issue prompted the coalition to take the bull by the horn by initiating the domestication of federal character principles in the state to as to address the situation to the barest minimum.
"We shall equally collaborate to sponsor a bill for the enforcement of observance of the federal character principles by all private businesses, financial institutions and Banks located in the state," the coalition noted.

While reminding the Senate to act urgently on the juicy recommendations made at the Kano Public Hearing on drugs last year October.

The group also vowed to liaise with traditional rulers and mobilise religious leaders and civil society organisations to launch a vigorous campaign to achieve its mission.
