Security operatives on Tuesday came to the rescue of the state Presidential Elections Collation Officer, Prof. Enefiok Essien, when aggrieved agents of the All Progressives Congress (APC) almost went physical to protest against the non-acceptance of the results from Emohua Local Government Area of the state.

Trouble started after Essien concluded collation and asked all party agents to sign on the allotted spaces, when the state agent of the APC for the presidential elections, Sampson Ngerebara, raised an objection.

Ngerebara argued that result for Emohua LGA should not have been cancelled, adding that the state collation officer has no such power to cancel or remove any results already submitted to the panel.

But the collation officer said all complaints, requests and applications submitted to him would be handed personally to the INEC chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, who would made final a final decision.

But, the APC agent alongside another party supporter who could not immediately be identified, still feeling unsatisfied with the response of the state collation officer, tried to attack him but were prevented by security operatives.

It resulted in a free-for-all and journalists and observers all had to run for their lives.

Addressing journalists shortly after the incident, He said: "Yesterday, before the collation ended, we all agreed that the panel does not have the right to remove, cancel or delete any results that have been presented to them and Emohua results was properly presented to the collation officer.

"This evening, the Rivers collation officer, suddenly turned 360 degrees and said Emohua results should be removed, and we all know by law that a collation officer does not have the right to cancel, delete or remove any results that have been presented to the collation panel and i felt it is wrong.

"We had a rumour that the collation officer has been compromised, but it is quite unfortunate that whatever is done here cannot change Buhari's fate, Buhari has already won.”

Meanwhile, the state Collation officer announced that the PDP polled 473,971 while the APC got 150,710. Total votes cast was 642,165, rejected votes 24,420 and total votes cast 666,585. Elections did not hold in Bonny and Akukutotu Local Government Areas while there were no collation in Okrika, Ikwerre, and Ahoada West. Result for Emohua was rejected.
