FG Sanctions 15-hour Traffic Diversion from Presidential Inauguration Venue

The Presidential Inauguration Committee on Tuesday announced plan to divert traffic for 15 hours on some routes leading to the Eagle Square, where President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo would be sworn in for a second term on Wednesday.

The committee headed by Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SFG), Boss Mustapha, said the diversion would take effect from 12 midnight on Tuesday and 3 p.m. on Wednesday.

According to the list, the routes are National Assembly; Aso Drive by DSS Headquarters- DPO; Mpape; NITEL Junction by Ahmadu Bello Way; FCDA by Finance Headquarters; Kur Mohammed by Benue House Plaza; Gana-Transcorp Hilton Hotel; FCDA by POWA; Goodluck Ebele Jonathan expressway (Intersection into Three Arms Zone) and Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Tower.

Others are Federal Secretariat Phase III under the bridge; behind Foreign Affairs under the bridge; Bayelsa House; Water Board/Deeper Life junction.

The committee Tuesday also announced dedicated car parks for the 2019 presidential inauguration.


The designated car parks are Millennium Tower car park; Old Parade Ground Area 10 Garki; Millennium car park; Court of Appeal car park, while the Eagle Square car park is for dignitaries with Gold Cards. The Supreme Court car park is for the evening event.

Drug Insecurity: House Urges FG to Fund Indigenous Drug Research

The House of Representatives on Tuesday urged the federal government to invest more in the National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development in order to encourage local and indigenous research. The House also urged the government to revisit the National Drug Policy as a way to promote and boost the medical industry. It directed its Committees on Health Institutions, Health Care Services and Science and Technology to organise a round table discussion to chart a probable course for the development of locally made drugs. Court Stops National Assembly From Taking Over Bauchi Assembly

As the National Assembly received a report from the committee it sent to Bauchi State to probe the leadership crisis rocking the state assembly since its inauguration last month, the state high court on Monday issued an order of interim injunction ordering that the present Speaker and Deputy Speaker, Abubakar Suleiman and Danlami Kawule respectively,   should continue leading the assembly pending the determination of the suit before it. Justice Muazu Abubakar, who issued the order, fixed October 3, 2019, for hearing of the motion and substantive application filed by the speaker, deputy speaker and other 11 members of the assembly who participated in the assembly election.
