Police Parade 17 Suspects, Launch ‘Operation Puff Adder’ in Ondo

For their alleged involvement in various crimes, the Ondo State Police Command on Tuesday paraded 17 persons who were arrested at various times and places in the state.



Specifically, the suspects, who were paraded at the headquarters of the state Police Command, were said to have committed crimes such as robbery, kidnapping, rape, fraud and cultism.


The suspects were Ibrahim Usman, Tunde Akinwumi, Tunde Akinboyewa, Ayobami Onigbinde, Aroyeun Oladayo, Ibrahim Shaibu, Abubakar Ibrahim and Mohammed Bello.


Others were Oyetoki Ayomide, Akinsey Solomon, Olagunju Taofeek, Sola Tosin, Lamidi Lucky, Ojo Are, Kayode Ademola, Abiola Jamiu and Abudu Oguleye



Parading the suspects, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Undie Adie, said efforts were ongoing to arrest some of the bandits that had escaped arrest.


The commissioner stated that all the suspects had confessed to the commission of the crime and they would all be charged to court as soon as the police complete its investigation.



The police listed items recovered from the suspected bandits to include guns, cutlasses, money, clothes and handsets.


Meanwhile, the police command had launched the 'Operation Puff Adder' as part of the efforts to fight crimes in the state.

Adie said the special operation was launched sequel to the order of the Inspector General of Police (IG), Mr. Mohammed Adamu.



He said: "It is important to state that 'Operation Puff Adder' is adopting a new approach to crime fighting which is intelligence-led approach with its foundation on the principles of community policing.


"In doing this, the technical and human intelligence resources available to us shall be put to full and effective use to guide our striking teams, who would be drawn from the police mobile force, anti-kidnapping unit, fast strike, SARS and anti-cultism as well as the Federal Highway and Safer Highway units."



He added that with the new operation, the people of the state would begin to see police officers relating with the members of the public in more polite and friendly manners.
