Surviving Wife of Tafawa-Balewa is Dead

Wife to Nigerian first and ever Prime Minister, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, Hajiya Jummai Abubakar Tafawa Balewa is dead.

Hajiya Jummai Abubakar Tafawa Balewa who until on Sunday was the only surviving wife of Nigeria’s first and only  Prime Minister Balewa.

Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa was Nigeria’s Prime Minister between 1960 to 1966.

Media checks in Bauchi late Sunday evening revealed that the late Jummai died in Lagos in the early hours of Sunday after a protracted illness. 

A family source also added that she was recently taken to India for medical attention where she was treated and discharged last week and returned to Nigeria to recuperate. 

The family source further said that the late octogenarian woman stopped over in Lagos to rest before coming back to Bauchi to continue her rehabilitation and recuperation, but "unfortunately in the early hours of Sunday, the illness relapsed and she went into coma but could not be revived as she died in the process," the source added. 

It is expected that her remains will be flown to Bauchi on Monday for burial.

Court Stops National Assembly From Taking Over Bauchi Assembly

As the National Assembly received a report from the committee it sent to Bauchi State to probe the leadership crisis rocking the state assembly since its inauguration last month, the state high court on Monday issued an order of interim injunction ordering that the present Speaker and Deputy Speaker, Abubakar Suleiman and Danlami Kawule respectively,   should continue leading the assembly pending the determination of the suit before it. Justice Muazu Abubakar, who issued the order, fixed October 3, 2019, for hearing of the motion and substantive application filed by the speaker, deputy speaker and other 11 members of the assembly who participated in the assembly election. Drug Insecurity: House Urges FG to Fund Indigenous Drug Research

The House of Representatives on Tuesday urged the federal government to invest more in the National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development in order to encourage local and indigenous research. The House also urged the government to revisit the National Drug Policy as a way to promote and boost the medical industry.
