Abuja IDPs Lament Lack for Basic Amenities, Ready to Go Home

The Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) at New Kuchingoro, Games Village, Abuja at the weekend said they were tired of living in the camp as there was no provision for social amenities like medical facilities, power supply etc.

The IDPs said life is hard for them in the camp, noting that they depended on a nearby stream for drinking water, adding that it was better for them to go back to their communities in Borno State and other North-Eastern states where they were displaced by the Boko Haram insurgency.

The leader of the displaced persons, Emmanuel Philemon,  who said this when the Ghanaian High Commission donated bags of rice, vegetable oil and  soap to the IDP camp at the weekend, said that they needed to go back to their farms in their respective communities.

He said, "We are tired of staying in this camp, the is no provision for health facilities or other amenities and we depend on the kindness of people for our well-being. I think it is better for us to go back to our communities so we can return to our farms and rebuild our lives; life is hard in this camp."

The acting Director-General, National Orientation Agency, Mrs. Ngozi Ekeoba, assured the displaced persons that Nigerians were concerned about their plight, adding that the government was making every effort to end the Boko Haram Insurgency as soon as possible.

She observed that many soldiers had died in the course of fighting the insurgency in the North-East, reminding the IDPs that their being alive meantGod has a plan for them.

Meanwhile, the Inspector-General of Police, Solomon  Arase, has called for support from every Nigerian to combat insecurity in the country and preventing crime.

Speaking at the National Conference of the Police Community Relations Committee, the IG said the PCRC as the police strategic partner, must build capacity to respond to prevailing trend of events.

He said, "The PCRC as the baseline of community policing, that became official policing option in Nigeria from April 2014, should be at the forefront of expounding partnership values, problem solving approach, empowerment and accountability to compliment the efforts of the police towards quality service delivery."
