The Lagos State police command, in line with the directive
by the state Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, today arrested the Managing Director of Lekki Gardens, Mr.
Richard Nyong.
Ambode ordered for his arrest following the collapse of the
company's five-storey building at the Ikate area of Lekki in the state that
claimed 34 lives and left 13 with serious degree of injuries.
Although details of his arrest was still sketchy, sources
hinted he was arrested today’s evening.
It was learnt that the contractor of the building project, Taiwo
Odofin, had earlier been arrested for his role in the collapsed building.
Before the MD's arrest, the police had earlier declared the
34-year-old wanted as he was said to have fled to evade arrest.
While confirming the arrest, the state police command PRO, SP
Dolapo Badmos, said the MD is presently in police custody.
According to her, "Yes, I confirm that Mr. Richard Nyong, the 34-year-old Managing
Director of Lekki Gardens of 167 kushenla Road, Ikate Elegushi, has been
arrested. He is in custody and will soon be charged to court."
