Ekiti Assembly Summons Fayemi over N852m UBEC Fund
In what seems like a fight back by the Ekiti State Governor,
Ayodele Fayose’s protégés over the arrest of four lawmakers by men of the
Department of State
Services (DSS), the state House of Assembly today
gave the immediate-past Governor of the state, Kayode Fayemi. 13-day ultimatum
to appear before it and clarify issues on the alleged misappropriation of the
N852,000,000
Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) fund.
This was the unanimous resolution reached by the
Assembly at its
Wednesday's plenary in Ado-Ekiti, presided over by its
Speaker, Hon. Kola
Oluwawole.
The summon, according to the assembly, was pursuant
to Sections128
(1)(2) and 129(c) of the Constitution of the Federal
Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended, which gave the assembly the powers to
invite present and former public officials to clear air on any knotty issues.
Moving the motion, the leader of Government
Business, Hon. Tunji
Akinyele, said the alleged misappropriated UBEC fund had caused the
state to be black-listed by the commission.
Those who contributed during the fierce debate
were: Hon Segun
Adewumi, deputy Speaker , Chairman, House Committee
on Information,
Hon. Gboyega Aribisogan and Hon. Ekundayo Akinleye.
