Ahead of the 2019 polls, no fewer than 2,000 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ilorin South Local Government Area of Kwara State on Wednesday dumped the party for Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The defectors, who were mainly from Akanbi ward 3, 4 and 5 of the local government council publicly burnt their brooms which is the symbol of APC and embraced the umbrella-the symbol of the PDP.

The event which took place at Agbabiaka primary school, Danialu yesterday saw the defectors in joyful mood, pledging their unalloyed support to the PDP and the Saraki political dynasty in the state.

The event happened on the sidelines of the PDP rally held in the area with the presence of the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki; the state Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, the PDP governorship candidate, Hon. Razak Atunwa, and other chieftains of the PDP in the state.

The spokesperson of the defectors, Mr. Saliu Kareem, described the APC as a party of deceit that has no focus for the teeming youths in the country.

He said: "We are endeared into the PDP because of its lofty programmes that encompasses youth agenda in the country."

Kareem stated that they would work hard to ensure electoral victory of PDP in the forthcoming general election in the country.

He, therefore, assured Saraki of electoral victory for PDP so as to add more values to the growth of the state.

Receiving them, Saraki urged the defectors to work for the success of the PDP in the state, adding that everyone of them would be given equal treatment in the party.

He said they should not allow the alleged federal might being planned by the APC-led federal government to outwit PDP to discourage them from voting, urging them to wait to see the counting of their votes during the polls.
According to Saraki, "We own Kwara State and Nigeria together, and no one can intimidate any one. Vote and stay behind to see the outcome of your votes.

"We will ensure our votes count and no one can intimidate anybody because this election is for Kwarans and Nigerians, and we will ensure PDP electoral victory in order to attract more dividends of democracy to my people."
Meanwhile, it was a home coming for Saraki on Wednesday when the people of Balogun-Fulani ward 1,2 and 3 as they trooped out en masse to give him a rousing welcome.

The event was part of his PDP campaigns   across all wards in Ilorin South Local Government Area of the state.
