Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the
Rivers State governorship election, Governor Nyesom Wike, has won another term
in the just concluded controversial election.
At the end of the final collation of 21 local government
areas announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Wike
polled 886,264 votes ahead of candidate of the African Alliance Congress (AAC),
Biokpomabo Awara, who garnered 173,859 votes.
The PDP candidate polled a total of 712,405 votes ahead of
his closest rival.
Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, had earlier declared
support for Awara since his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), was
ineligible to field candidates in the elections.
