The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) Benue State on
Wednesday sealed three petrol stations for failure to comply with their
regulations and guidelines.
The stations are Prime Power Nigeria Ltd along Naka road; Conoil
located close to the government house and Total along Kashim Ibrahim road all
in Makurdi, the state capital.
At Prime Power petrol Station, staff of the department
observed that they were under dispensing kerosene to consumers. At Conoil, they
frowned at the sanitary condition of the station that also, has a broken fence
and used as a car wash which necessitated it closure. While at Total, it was
sealed because the station engaged in wrong metering and pump measurement.
Speaking to Journalists after the monitoring tour, state DPR
Controller, Francis Adakole, decried the attitude of management of Conoil who have
several times been cautioned over the poor Sanitary condition of their Station
but refused to take any action, insisting that this time, they must be a
commitment from them before the station will be unsealed.
"At DPR, we insist on safety, operating a car wash
inside a petrol Station is dangerous. It has also, been observed that most of the petrol
stations use Chinese pumps which are adjusted digitally hence, they under
deliver petrol to commuters. When we observe this, we seal the stations and
make them pay a fine of 100,000 naira,” he said.
