At least 19 people were confirmed dead while seven
others were injured in a fatal road accident last Sunday in Kano.
The accident occurred at Dinyar Madiga in Takai
Local Government Area in Kano State.
Kano Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission
(FRSC), Mr. Zubair Mato, confirmed the incident on Monday.
The FRSC commander in a statement to journalists in
Kano said out of the 19 dead persons, 14 are male, three female and two male
children.
Zubair said the incident involved four vehicles
with 26 passengers attributing the accident to over speeding and dodging of
potholes on the highway.
The accident involved two VW Golf, Sharon bus,
Honda Accord and Kano Line bus.
According to him, the victims have since been
rushed to Takai General Hospital and are receiving treatment.
However, an eyewitness at the scene of the accident
said 21 persons died instantly, while six vehicles were involved, adding that
two of the vehicles were said to have got burnt.
Also, the National Union of Road Transport Workers
(NURTW) Chairman in Takai, Malam Datti Shawu, also confirmed the accident.
Musa appealed to authorities to immediately
rehabilitate the road that has claimed about 62 lives since January this year.
