The National Chairman of Action Alliance (AA), Kenneth Udeze, has accused Uche Nwosu, the son-in-law of the immediate past Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, of being the brain behind his recent ordeal in the hands of the police.
Udeze, while briefing journalists at the weekend immediately after the National Convention of his party in Abuja, alleged that Nwosu sent policemen after him to arrest him for perjury and forcefully dragged him to Osun State from Abuja.
It had earlier been reported that the Udeze was arrested and not kidnapped as insinuated in the social media.
Udeze had on Monday appeared before the Osun State Magistrates'Court in Osogbo, where he was charged with four counts of forgery, alteration, and conspiracy.
The prosecutor, James Famuyimi, had told the court that Udeze and some persons still at large forged a document and presented it to the Independent National Electoral Commission.
He said the forged document was presented to INEC during AA's governorship primary election in 2018.
Famuyimi argued that Udeze violated Section 516 of the Criminal Code Cap 34, Voll 2, Laws of Osun State 2002 and was liable to be punished under Section 467 of the same law.
However, Udeze pleaded not guilty to the charges and following an oral bail application by his lawyer, Wemimo Animasahun, the court admitted Udeze to bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The matter was adjourned till November 5, 2019 for mention.
But the AA chief insisted that he was kidnapped by those policemen allegedly sent by Nwosu against him, calling on the Inspector-General of Police, Adamu Mohammed to wade in and protect the image of the Nigerian police.
He wondered why policemen in Osun State would solely come down to Abuja in order to arrest him without branching any of the police stations in the Federal Capital Territory.
He said: "Politicians should desist from dragging the name of Nigerian police into their affairs. A situation where the Nigerian police from Osun state will get into Abuja purportedly to arrest a suspect without following the rules of engagement"
"I came out from Zenith Bank Friday morning and saw some men who introduced themselves as members of Nigerian Police, showed my warrant of arrest on offense of perjury, forgery and I believed that they are heading to Zuba police station as a law-abiding citizen.
"Soon after I realized that they were not heading to Zuba and to my greatest surprise I saw a known political enemy of AA party (Adekunle Rufai Omagee) who is working for the former governorship candidate of the party Uche Nwosu of Imo state, driving a vehicle that is supposed to be taking a suspect all the way from Abuja to Osogbo."
"I started battling with supposed policemen that I will not leave Abuja without being introduced to any police station. They quickly used handcuffs on me, brought out their guns and used electric shocker to demobilize me. After some traumatic experience, I saw myself in Osogbo in one of the prison cells."
