A former member of the House of Representatives from Nasarawa State, Ahmed Aliyu Wadada, has called on the federal government to thoroughly investigate the utilisation of the bailout and budget support funds released to state governments before deductions.

Wadada stated on Monday while interacting with journalists in Keffi, the headquarters of Keffi Local Government Area of the Nasarawa State, adding that the funds were not largesse but meant to assist in the development of the respective states.

According to the former federal lawmaker, "It is only right that investigations are conducted to find out how the funds were spent before the commencement of the repayment process."

He continued that it was expected that the new governors should look at their respective hand over notes to verify how such funds were utilised.

He also advised the new governors to look at the books and take decision that best suit their states arising from what they met on the ground.

The former National Assembly member, who is also a chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC), further advised the governors not willing to pay minimum wage to vacate their offices.

He said: "It is ridiculous that while some governors take between N200 and 400 million as security votes, still they cannot pay the new minimum wage. I find it very ridiculous for anybody to be foot-dragging over minimum wage for crying out loud.

“Minimum wage of N30, 000 is less than a hundred dollar. I have heard of a governor taking N1 billion as security vote every month for eight years; I have gone to that state and nothing has been done in the state."
