A 42-year-old father and resident of Gwadenya village in Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, Ayuba John, has been arrested by personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for allegedly selling his son for the sum of N5 million.

The state NSCDC Commandant, Mahmoud Bala Fari, paraded the suspect alongside a 45-year-old rapist, Garba Wamba, for defiling a 10-year-old girl in Lafia.

Addressing journalists shortly after parading the two suspects, the NSCDC commandant said the suspects have confessed to committing crimes.

Fari said: "This is one of the dangers we are facing in this country. It is a case of child trafficking, but this one is the worst child trafficking we have ever seen.

"The man in your presence is the biological and legitimate father of the child. He is 42 years old and has five wives, but has divorced one. He has 22 children and had sold one of his daughters for ritual in Owerri in Imo State. Presently, we are working with our men to see the possibility of arresting the remaining criminals involved.

"The suspect was about to sell his second child when we apprehended him. You can see the little boy there, and when I asked him why he attempted to sell him, he said he wanted to raise his financial status."

On the 45-year-old suspected rapist, Fari continued: "The man allegedly defiled a girl, 10. The two suspects will be taken to court to face the consequences of their actions."
