Nigerian Police Deny Going After Journalist Who Released IGP’s ‘Transmission’ Video

The Kano police state command on Sunday stated that it is not after Aminu Nurudeen, a Liberty Television reporter, said to have published a video of Ibrahim Idris, Inspector-General of Police (IGP), struggling to read a speech at an event.
Reports indicate that Nurudeen has gone into hiding after the Kano police invited him for questioning over the video which embarrassed the IGP.
However, in a statement on by Musa Majiya, spokesman of the Kano police command, the force insisted that no journalist was invited over the video clip.
Majiya said the command maintained a cordial relationship with the state’s chapter of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ).
“The attention of Kano state police command is drawn to trending headlines in some national dailies and online media that the ’Police Launched prove, threaten bloggers arrest’ over IGP’s trending video,” the statement read.
“The command hereby debunks the news as false in its entirety and an act by mischief makers.
“No journalist was arrested nor invited by the command for interrogation over the video clip. It is crystal clear that the ommand maintain cordial relationship with the state chapter of the NUJ, the correspondence Chapel and all bloggers.
“The media outlets responsible for the report had their correspondents here in Kano but none consulted the command to verify the news. No manhunt of any journalist what so ever by the Kano police command, please.”

Population of Doctors in Nigeria Hits 74,543

  The number of registered medical doctors in Nigeria has risen to 74,543. According to the federal government statistics, as at 2018, the stock of professionally regulated health workers in Nigeria health sector has also recorded a significant increase. The population equates to 36.3 percent of medical doctors per 100,000 population (doctor to population ratio of 1: 2753). Fifty-nine percent of the registered medical practitioners were in good standing with 35 percent being females. UBEC Board Chairman, Daughter Freed from Captivity

The Board Chairman of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Dr. Muhammed Mahmoud, and his daughter were on Tuesday released by their abductors. Mahmoud, his daughter and several other travellers were abducted last Monday on the Kaduna-Abuja expressway when suspected bandits open fire at them. The UBEC boss’ driver was said to have been killed during the incident. There has been no information about other commuters who were abducted by the bandits. Mahmood's freedom was confirmed in a telephone interview by Hussaini Danladi, a relation, who said they were freed from captivity at about noon yesterday.
