The South-east leaders of African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Sunday commended former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, and the leaders of Coalition for Nigeria Movement (CNM) over the adoption of the party as a vehicle for pursuit of a new Nigeria.

This was contained in a communiqué issued to journalists after a strategic meeting of the leaders of the party in the Southeast held in Awka, Anambra State, to deliberate on the recent adoption of the party.

The seven-point communique read in part: "We thank President Obasanjo and other strategic stakeholders who we may not be able to mention for their wise decision to adopt the ADC and the enormous trust they repose in the founding National Chairman of our party, Chief Okey Nwosu.

"The leaders of ADC in the South East assure all stakeholders that their trust is well placed; that they should be rest assured that our commitment and passion are in alignment with their patriotism, and good aspiration of all Nigerians."

The party said it’s a known fact that the government of All Progressives Congress (APC) has failed in the core responsibilities of any government as the security and welfare of the people have deteriorated monumentally, and that ADC would restore it when it takes over government in 2019.

The party also assured Ndigbo that it would use its platform to reintegrate the people of the Southeast back to mainstream national politics.

It said: "In this regards, we pledge to work and put in our best effort and resources to colour the South East with ADC. We shall use the ADC symbol of handshake to reach out to every Nigerian to bring back friendship, love, unity of purpose, and use the power in our diversity to make Nigeria a model for Africa, investors’ haven and the darling of the world."

The party said its leaders would remain committed to the avowed vision of the founders of Nigeria from the Northwest, Northeast, North-central, Southwest, South-south, and Southeast, and would use the party as a launch pad to bring in new generation of leaders into governance.

It called on all well-meaning patriots in the Southeast and across Nigeria to join ADC, saying the door is wide open to accommodate everyone.

Those in attendance at the meeting were Zonal Chairman, Chief Paul Umensofor; Nlem Ignatius (Imo State Chairman), Kelenna Obonna (Abia State), Mrs. Stella Chukwuma ( Enugu State).

Others are Pastor Frank Agumadu (Anambra), Mr. Udume Samuel Evo (Ebonyi), Okonkwo Ifeanyi(CNM Anambra), Hon Nkem Ukandu (CNM Abia) and Zonal Publicity Secretary ADC, Mathias Okinya.
