The era of declaration by politicians for various political positions have started and some of the Nollywood stars who believe they have the integrity and intelligence to represent their people have also started showing interest.

Recently, one of the most popular actors in the Nollywood industry, Kanayo O. Kanayo, declared to run for the Federal House of Representatives to represent Ahiazu/Ezinihitte Mbaise federal constituency.

Kanayo’s interest was spurred by the level of poverty and under-representation, the federal constituency has suffered in the past years, and has summoned the courage to use his level of exposure nationally and internationally to serve his people at that level to attract development to his federal constituency.

Expressing his interest to run on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) at the headquarters of the party in his local government area, Itu Ezinihitte Mbaise, before a large crowd, Kanayo said: “My great people of Ahiazu/Ezinihitte Mbaise, I deem it an honour and great privilege to stand in your presence to declare my candidacy to represent you in the House of Representatives on the platform of APGA.”

He added that the temerity to seek their representation at that level is “hidden in the burning and genuine desire to render selfless service to his people,” having realised the hardship the people pass through especially in training their children in school, which he recounted he passed through as a little school boy in the village as his father gave his last for his education.

“Right from my childhood in Oboama, the stories of the experiences of Mbaise women protesters of 1929 and the early politicians, whose labour led to the federation of the five courts in 1941, have inspired my dreams, aspirations and envisioned roles. My declaration is the manifestation of a dream incubated and waiting for the right time and opportunity which is now.

“Over the past 24 to 30 years, I have acted in many roles-big and small, sad and funny, but in every instance, the characters and events were contrived and imaginary. With this declaration, I am auditioning for my biggest and most realistic and non-fictional role of bringing my knowledge, skills and wealth of experience to bear in proving result oriented and fruitful representation of real event and un-imaginary people of Ahiazu/Ezinihitee Mbaise. The challenges therefore are enormous but I am well-prepared to surmount these challenges,” he stated.
