A prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party
(PDP) in the House of Representatives, Hon. Timothy Simon Golu, on Wednesday denied
speculations making the round that he is now supporting President Muhammadu
Buhari.
There had been heightened speculation when the
lawmaker was sighted on some social media platforms with the four-by-four
fingers branding of President Buhari, which signifies second term for the president.
But in a swift clarification, Golu told journalists that his allegiance remains
with the presidential candidate of the PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
Though Golu, the House of Representatives member
representing Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam federal constituency of Plateau State, had
posed in a picture with his colleague, Hon. Ibrahim Sadik Ibrahim (Adamawa,
APC), raising his two hands to display the Buhari re-election sign, he
maintained that he has not defected to the APC and that he is not planning to
do so either.
According to Golu, “How can I defect to the APC
when I am the PDP candidate for my constituency in the February 16 elections? I
am not in any way campaigning for Buhari. Not at all! This is not a Buhari
symbol. It is a personal symbol of anyone who is seeking additional four years mandate.
“My candidate is Atiku Abubakar. I am seeking another
four years, and this sign has nothing to do with Buhari who is also campaigning
for anothe four years.”
He explained that “we took that picture after MC
Tagwaye, who mimics President Buhari, had finished his presentation at the
workshop organised by FIRS for lawmakers in Lagos, and our colleagues in All
Progressives Congress (APC) were shouting four more years for Buhari.
“In fact, our old colleagues were shouting eight
years, while we in PDP were saying four plus four. So, this sign is not an APC
symbol. I was only demonstrating my own desire to return to the House. I want
additional four years. So, I am not campaigning for Buhari. I can never
campaign for him.
“Atiku is the man Nigeria needs now and everybody
knows that Buhari is on his way to Daura. I can assure you Nigerians will
reject Buhari’s second term and vote for Atiku, the man who has what it takes
to make Nigeria work again.”
