Jauro is NIMASA New Acting DG

Barely four days after Mr. Calistus Obi was appointed as the acting Director General of Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), following the removal of Dr. Patrick Ziakede Akpobolokemi from office by President Mohammadu Buhari, another person has emerged as the acting Director General of the
government agency. He is Mr. Haruna Baba Jauro.

Jauro’s appointment effectively shut the door against Obi who formally took over the reins of administration from Akpobolokemi last Tuesday. Obi was hitherto NIMASA Executive Director, Cabotage and Maritime Labour.

In a statement issued in Lagos by NIMASA Deputy Director and Head of Public Relations, Mr. Isichei Osamgbi, it was learnt that the appointment of Jauro as Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the multi-billion naira agency was communicated through a letter issued by the Federal Ministry of Transport at the weekend.

Until his appointment, Jauro was the Executive Director, Finance and Administration in the agency and brings over two decades experience in the public sector and the maritime industry to his new responsibility.

According to the statement, Jauro, who hails from Yobe State, holds Higher National Diploma in Accounting from the Kaduna Polytechnic as well as a Post Graduate Diploma and an MBA both from the University of Maiduguri.

Married with children, the Acting DG, is also a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Management, the Institute of Credit Administrators as well as a certified national accountant.

With Jauro’s appointment, the politics of who will be the substantive head of the federal government agency has
been heightened as those in the corridors of power continue to mount pressure on Buhari to appoint one of their cronies as the successor to Akpobolokemi.

It was also gathered that not less than six persons are presently jostling to clinch the Director General position in NIMASA.
