Police: Investigation into Senate Alleged Forgery Inconclusive

Nigeria Police yesterday said they have not concluded investigations on the alleged forgery of the Senate Standing Order and given a copy of the report to President Muhammadu Buhari as reported in some sections of the media.
Speaking on the conclusion of the purported report yesterday, the Force Public Relations Officer, FPRO, Emmanuel Ojukwu, Commissioner of Police, dispelled as falsehood that the investigation into the forgery case has been concluded by the Police and submitted to President Buhari.
Some of the earlier reports had stated tha Buhari received a copy of the report last week and that he Police report confirmed that the Standing Rules used to inaugurate the 8th Assembly were forged.
In the report, the Police were said to have recommended the prosecution of those found culpable of forging the orders, which had been used in the controversial election of the Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki, and his deputy, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, on June 9, 2015.
The report was said to have indicted the management of the National Assembly, especially the Clerk, Salisu Maikasuwa and recommended the prosecution of the suspects.
Ojukwu told our Reporter that the said investigation is still on-going, adding that no report has been submitted to the President.
In his words: “I want to state categorically clear that the investigation into the allegation of forgery at the Senate is still on-going. We have not concluded it yet, so where did the media get the information that not only has it been concluded but handed over to President Mohammed Buhari.
“Investigation is still on-going and whenever it is ready, we will make it available to the public. The media report that we have concluded investigation into the case is false and should be disregarded.”
Acting on a petition by Senator Sulaiman Hunkuyi (All Progressives Congress, Kaduna State), the Police had on July 6 quizzed Ekweremadu and Maikasuwa over an alleged forgery of the standing orders.
The petition alleged that some parts of the 2015 Senate Orders were different from the one ratified by the 6th Senate in 2010, which was used by the 7th Senate, as Standing Orders 2011.
