How I Survived Road Accident, By CBN Deputy Governor, Adelabu

The Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Bayo Adelabu, on Thursday narrated how he escaped narrowly in an auto crash that occurred along Lagos-Ibadan expressway on his way to the airport.

While reacting to media inquiry on a news item  an online medium,  Parrot Xtra that Adelabu escaped death in a recent accident, Adelabu said it was true.

He said God in His infinite mercy was so kind to him and his aides because their SUV jeep in which they were traveling surmmersaulted several times after it was hit by another vehicle which rammed into his convoy.

Adelabu who has now been replaced by Aisha Ahmed, narrated that he was travelling in a convoy of a few vehicles when a vehicle suddenly collided with the Sports Utility Vehicle that was conveying him and others to Lagos.

According to him, "I bless God for His abiding grace and enduring mercy. What you read as narrated in the social media was true but to God be the glory. I am recovering fast and I wish to state that there is no cause for worry. Everybody on board is fine."

An Ibadan based online news medium, PMParrot, said on Thursday that the accident happened on September 25, 2017, while the CBN Deputy Governor was on his way to Lagos to catch a flight to Abuja.

Adelabu is being touted as being interested in contesting the 2019 governorship election in Oyo State. Although he had yet to associate himself with any political party or declare his intention publicly, some are already speculating that he is the preferred candidate of Governor Abiola Ajimobi as his successor because of their closeness and Adelabu's pedigree as a youthful, vibrant and brilliant accomplished banker and who is daily becoming the toast of many across political divides.

His aide said the accident to occurred around 6am at a spot close to Redeemed Christian Church of God on Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

He said: “It was such a sudden collision. We did not see it coming and the impact caused the Deputy Governor’s jeep to somersault severally. The car skidded off the main road before the somersaulted. If you see the vehicle after the accident, all the airbags came were triggered. God saved him from the accident. He was taken to Abuja to be treated before he came back home to rest more. He prefers not to make a noise about it.”
