Heavily armed operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Tuesday arrested the Chairman/Managing Director of Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing (IVM), Chief Innocent Chukwuma, in Enugu.

Operatives of the anti-graft agency and armed policemen stormed the residence of the IVM owner located at Savage Crescent, GRA, Enugu, at 7.30a.m. to arrest him.

There was however initial resistance by security men at his residence as they refused the EFCC operatives entrance resulting in the firing of teargas canisters by the policemen accompanying the EFCC agents.

They equally cordoned off all the exit routes from the residence resulting in an initial gridlock as most people who were involved in early morning activities experienced serious delays.

The operatives later succeeded in gaining access to the building after over-powering his security men and eventually took him away.

It was later revealed that Chukwuma was taken to the EFCC zonal office at Independence Layout, Enugu, for some documentation before whisking him away to its Lagos office.

When contacted, the agency's Head of Public Affairs in the Southeast, Chris Oluka, said the zone was unaware of why he was arrested.

He said those who carried out the operation came from the agency's Lagos office and as such, were in a better position to give details of why he was arrested.

Oluka refused to provide any further details. IVM had earlier in the month unveiled four new brands of his company’s vehicles-IVM G80, IVM 40, IVM 20 and IVM Granitein.
