Exactly four years ago, 59 male students of Federal Government College, Buni Yadi, Yobe State, were shot and burnt by Boko Haram terrorists in one gory massacre that shook Nigeria.

Four years after, justice still eludes the families of the deceased students, as they are yet to find closure given that no one has been brought to book over the heinous crime.

The remembrance is more glaring in the wake of the continued disappearance of some Chibok girls and the recent abduction of 105 students from Dapchi, Yobe State, which seems to suggest that our schools are still not safe, especially in the North east region.

Whilst the abduction of the Dapchi girls is still a front burner issue, many however took to several social media platforms to remember the slain boys with the hashtag #BuniYadiMassacre.

Some of those who took out time to remember the slain boys include rights activist, Bukky Shonibare who said, "
#BuniYadiMassacre.Exactly four years ago, 59 boys of Federal Government College, Buni Yadi, Yobe State, were gruesomely massacred."

Using some pictures to buttress her point she said, "Ahmad Gulani was among those killed. Maryam is sister to one of them. They have names. They have faces. They have families. Pray for them. May we heal."

Nnamdi Obasi said, "#BuniYadiMassacre: This day in 2014, 59 male students were slaughtered, shot and burnt by Boko Haram at Federal Government College, Buni Yadi, Yobe state.

"Today, as we remember them, we must demand that Nigeria’s Federal and State governments ensure better protection for students, especially in the North East."

Chris Ezaka said, "Bloods have been shed in this land. Imagine, I have forgotten this because this menace is still on going in scores. May we heal."

Supporting the call by the Bring Back Our Girls Group (BBOG) to hold a commemoration service for the boys
Maureen Kabrik said, "With heavy hearts we remember our Buni Yadi Boys today.

"Join @BBOG_Nigeria at the Unity Fountain today by 4pm as we commemorate our heroes whose crime was they dared to be educated. The nation failed them.We must all come together to say #NeverAgain.
#BuniYadiMassacre. #RestOn"

Aisha Yesufu, BBOG advocate said, "Sent to school to be educated. Massacred by terrorists four years today. #BuniYadiBoys . #BuniYadiMassacre #BuniYadiHeroes.

"Another 25th February, another remembrance and no lessons learnt.
#BuniYadiBoys. #BuniYadiMassacre #BuniYadiHeroes."

Amat Aminu said, "In the wake of Dapchi, Ghali now 23 years old is an eye witness during #BuniYadiMassacre where many of his friends lost their lives. Daniel a friend who ran beside him in the same direction with him was also killed by a stray bullet."

Dr. Faj Ireloju also added, "Four years ago, 59 boys were brutally murdered in the middle of the night. Their crime? They sought education. #buniyadimassacre . We remember. We won't forget."

Muttaka Hassan said, "Four years after the deadly #BuniYadiMassacre by #BokoHaram still its fresh in our mind, seems still our school are not safe, our problem is that we are not learning from the past."

Jeff Okoroafor noted, "Four years ago today, Boko Haram butchered these boys for seeking education. The government failed them. The government still disappoints their families."

In response, Bashir Ahmad, the personal assistant to the president of new media said, "Four years ago, (still very fresh in our minds) Boko Haram massacred 58 students of FGC Buni Yadi in Yobe State.

"It was so terrible, heartless and unimaginable. May Allah accept them and continue to comfort their families. May such brutality never happen again. #BuniYadiMassacre."
