Fire Burns Three Children of Same Parents in Onitsha

Three children identified as Chiemerie Nwafor, Onyedika Nwafor and Esther Nwafor have been burnt beyond recognition in a shop owned by their mother, Mrs. Blessing Nwafor, in Onitsha, Anambra State.

It was gathered that Mrs. Nwafor left the children in a container, which she uses as shop in Awada area of Onitsha, when the mysterious fire suddenly started, and burnt the three children.

The children, two boys and a girl, were aged five, four and three years respectively.

The spokesperson of Anambra State Police Command, SP Haruna Mohammed, confirmed the incident, saying the fire started at about 2:15p.m. on Thursday.

He said: "Today 10/1/2019 at about 2:15 p.m. two short containers used as shop and apartment along High Tension School Road, Ugwuagba-Obosi in Idemili North LGA of Anambra State was gutted by fire.

"Consequently, the owner of affected containers one Blessing Nwafor 'f' who was not around at the time of incident reportedly left three of her Children namely Chimierie Nwafor 'm' aged 5yrs, Onyedika Nwafor 'm' aged 4yrs and Esther Nwafor 'f' aged 3yrs inside the Container and they were all burnt beyond recognition."

Haruna said Police Patrol team attached to Awada Division led by the DPO CSP Tony Adeyi rushed to the scene, cordon off the area and removed the charred remains of the victims to Bex Hospital's mortuary for autopsy after they were certified Dead by a medical Doctor.

He said the cause of the fire was not yet known, but said the police has launched investigation into the matter to ascertain circumstances surrounding the incident.
