Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in
charge of Zone '5', Mr Musa A. Daura, has said t the police authorities would
deal decisively with any policeman involved in any cult activities either by
membership or association.
Daura, who gave the warning while addressing
officers and men of the force during a visit to Warri Area Command in Delta
State on Tueday, said membership of cult groups was prohibited for policemen
just as the authorities frowned seriously at policemen conniving with criminals
under any guise.
The police boss cautioned: "Don’t involve
yourself in cultism; anyone caught would be severely sanctioned".
The AIG also expressed worry over the spate of
kidnapping in the state and charged the officers and men to intensify
surveillance especially in the Warri axis where kidnapping and other criminal
activities have recently taken an upward swing.
He said nothing should be left untouched in the
effort to clampdown on criminals and criminality in the locality, demanding
closer tabs be placed on hotels to checkmate the activities of criminals who
patronise hospitality homes.
Accordingly, he directed that hotels operating
in the area should make their customers' manifests, particularly on lodgers,
available to the relevant police divisions on daily basis.
Daura observed that: "All these criminals
always lodge in hotels. They go to motor parks and board vehicles from one
place to another. Henceforth, all DPOs must demand for lodgers' manifests from
any hotel. That will definitely assist you to fight crime in the society.
Hoteliers must submit their manifest daily to their DPOs and onward to the area
commanders.
