Boy, 17, Dies During Alleged Ritual Process 

A secondary school student, Raimi Fatai, 16, yesterday confirmed dead following alleged administration of unknown liquid substance on him by his three classmates during ritual process in Abeokuta, Ogun State.


It was learnt that Fatai and his classmates allegedly embarked on money-making ritual, as one of the boys was said to be the son of a native doctor giving the deceased and the other the substance.

Shortly after taking the substance, Fatai fell ill and died two days later while the second victim who was also on the verge of death, was taken to hospital for medical attention.

When the news of the incident filtered in, Policemen from Adatan Division arrested the three other students for interrogation.

Last Tuesday, authorities of the school (names withheld) summoned a meeting with the parents of the entire student populace where the incident was discussed.

The principal of the school (names withheld) where Fatai and his classmates were students before the incident, confirmed the incident to our correspondent.

She however stressed that the incident occurred outside the premises of the school during the Valentine period.

The principal, who lamented the incident described the teenage student's death as sad and unfortunate.

She further noted that the incident was a reflection of the level of moral decadence in the society, adding that the state Ministry of Education was already looking into the incident.

The principal added that the authorities of the school would continue to sensitize the students against engaging in all forms of social vices.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said that the command had launched an investigation into the incident.
