Modu Sheriff Elected New PDP Chairman
Former Governor of Borno State, Ali Modu Sheriff, was today elected as the new Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), after he insisted yesterday that he was at peace with the party
His emergence was as a result of the agreement among all organs of the party, including the national caucus, PDP Governors’ Forum and the National Assembly caucuses on the choice of the former federal lawmaker for the position.
Spokesman for the PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh, who disclosed this to journalists at the National Secretariat of the party in Abuja, stated that the decision would be communicated to the Board of Trustees (BoT) and subsequently, the National Executive Committee (NEC), for ratification after which a formal announcement would be made to the effect.
The former governor will replace Ahmadu Mu’azu, who resigned as PDP chairman shortly after the 2015 general elections that saw the former ruling party lose the presidency, states that used to be under its control as well as majority seats in the National Assembly. Prince Uche Secondus has been acting as Chairman since then but had been asked to revert to his earlier post of Deputy National Chairman.
