PDP Defeats APC in Taraba Re-run Elections
The
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) last Saturday defeated the All Progressives Congress (APC) in all
the supplementary elections conducted in Taraba State.
The
Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) conducted
supplementary elections into Sardauna/Gashaka/Kurmi federal constituency
as well as Ardo/Kola and Mbamga state constituencies
as ordered by the Court of Appeal, Yola.
Announcing
the results of the elections at a press conference in Jalingo , the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Mr
Habu Hinna stated that the candidate of
the PDP, Mr Dan-Asabe Hosea won the Sardauna/Kurmi/Gashaka Federal
constituency with 37,645 votes as against his closest rival Ibrahim
Elsudi of the All Progressives Congress (APC) with 37,609 votes.
In
the same vein, Mr Hinna announced that former Speaker of the State
House of Assembly, Mr Abel Peter Diah of the PDP polled 7, 825 to
defeat Mr Emmanuel Bongo of APC who scored 5,
642 votes to emerge winner of Mbamnga Constituency.
Similarly,
according to the REC, Mr Emmanuel Dame of PDP won the Ardo Kola state
constituency election with 12,138 while his rival, Alhaji Sanusi Wale of
the APC polled 11,047 votes.
The
Commissioner thanked all the stakeholders for ensuring that the
elections were conducted in the affected areas peacefully saying the
elections were a huge success.
There
were initial apprehensions about the peaceful conduct of the elections
particularly in Sardauna local government area where there were violent
clashes among supporters of PDP and
APC thereby raising fears and security concerns.
However,
the elections were generally peaceful in the three local government
areas and were generally adjudged to be credible, free and fair.
