Vice
President Yemi Osinbajo on Tuesday led a powerful team of governors, Secretary
to the Federal Government (SGF), Boss Mustapha, and other top leaders of the All
Progressives Congress (APC) at a rally in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State yesterday to
officially present Dr. Kayode Fayemi, as
the party's standard bearer in the July 14 governorship election in the state.
Osinbajo urged the people of Ekiti State to vote massively for the governorship
candidate of the APC, Fayemi, in the July 14 election, describing him as the
best man for the job.
This
is coming as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) described on Tuesday’s
governorship mega rally held by APC in the state as a dramatic display of the
failures embodied in the party.
Osinbajo
advised Ekiti residents to join the league of progressive states of Osun, Ogun,
Lagos, Oyo and Ondo of the Southwest region.
This
was as the National Chairman of the party, Chief John Odigie Oyegun, and the
National Leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu; former Governor of Edo State, Adams
Oshiomhole, as well as Chief Bisi Akande
told the electorate to vote right on July 14, saying a vote for the Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) means continuation of poverty.
Osinbajo
and other party leaders spoke in Ado Ekiti at Oluyemi Kayode stadium yesterday
at the official presentation of the governorship flag to Fayemi for the July 14
election.
Governors
from Zamfara State and Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF),
Governor
Abdulazis
Yari: Edo State Godwin Obaseki; Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola;
Ondo
State, Rotimi Akeredolu; Kogi State, Yahaya Bello; Oyo State, Abiola
Ajimobi;
Kwara State, Abdufatah Ahmed; Jigawa State, Alhaji Abubakar Badaru;
Plateau
State, Simon Lalong, among other states governors attended the rally.
Also
present were Ministers of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed;
Defence
Minister, Mansur Dan Ali; Minister of State Mines and Steel Development,
Abubakar Bawa Bwari, as well as Senator Olorunnibe Mamora.
Osinbajo
and Oyegun jointly received PDP defectors, who were led by former Minister of
Works, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, a serving lawmaker in Ekiti State House of
Assembly, Hon Adeniran Alagbada, and former Special Adviser in Ekiti State, Mr.
Bosun Osaloni, who decamped to APC.
Osinbajo
described Fayemi as a man sent by God to deliver the state from poverty, saying
the July 14 election affords the electorate the opportunity to change their
destinies for good.
Fayemi,
while addressing supporters, promised that all the programmes initiated by his
administration but abrogated by the present government would be restored in the
interest of the populace.
Meanwhile,
the PDP in a statement said speakers at
the APC’s governorship rally did not disclose any significant plan which the
party has for Ekiti State and her people, saying it an indication that it has
nothing except falsehood to offer the people.
The
party National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, said the poorly attended
rally was centred on abusive tantrums against the person of Fayose rather than
raising issues of development which Fayemi had always claimed to be his area of
strength.
PDP
urged the people of the state to rally the people’s party ahead of the July 14
governorship election, citing the huge development which the incumbent state
Governor, Fayose, has brought to bear
across the entire state.
