Senator representing Delta North in the Nigerian Senate, Peter Nwaoboshi, has revealed that his decision to stick with Senate President Olusola Saraki during the events that culminated in the latter's emergence as Senate President had the endorsement of Delta State Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa and former Governor, Chief James Ibori.

Nwaoboshi, who disclosed this while fielding questions from journalists on certain developments within the polity in Delta State and the National Assembly on Monday in Asaba, called on Nigerians to give members of the National Assembly "some respect" in matters concerning the country's democracy, peace and security.

He stressed that the Senate under the leadership of Senator Saraki was determined to ensure that Nigeria does not return to jackboot days where the rights of the citizens were trampled because of military dictatorship in the country.

Nwaoboshi, who is Chairman, Senate Committee on Niger Delta, warned against political docility among Nigerians, stressing that the people could not afford to lose sight of the years of locusts under decades of military rule by directly or indirectly encouraging dictatorial tendencies under the present dispensation.

While decrying the current face off between the Executive and the Legislature in the country vis-a-vis the ongoing persecution of certain senators as being motivated purely by politics, the senator described as laughable the attempt to rope in the Senate President in the case of armed robbery in a state Saraki served as two-time governor.

"Although, I never drank a cup of tea in Saraki's house during the builup to his election as the preident of thw senate, I played an active role in the process. I was always on the road, and I ended up representing or becoming the liaison man with South-East because I speak Igbo language very well", he said wile reminiscing on the eergence of Saraki.

"So, I became a chairman of an influential committee because of my loyalty and dedication to the cause; and, they would have given me a higher position if there was any as Saraki and the members asked me what I wanted because of my loyalty.

"My sphere if influence as cahirman of the committee that oversights the NDDC and Niger Delta in Senate is such that I can call up any oil company and they are bound to answer.
What I'm asking for the people is by right, not for myself."

He noted that his overriding interest in his more than 40 years in politics in this country has been to better the lot of the people and communities he represents as well as Delta State and Nigeria in general.
