The chairman Innoson Group, Chief Innocent Chukwuma and chief executive officer of Dozzy Oil, Dr Daniel Chukwudozie have been honoured by Nnamdi Azikiwe University Business School as exemplary pacesetters in the drive to industrialise Africa.
Chukwuma and Chukwudozie were honoured alongside two other business giants in the South east; Dr Emeka Okwuosa and Dr Ifeanyi Okoye of Oilserv and Juhel Pharmaceuticals respectively.
The awards were conferred on the recipients by the university's Vice Chancellor, Prof Joseph Ahaneku, during the 2018 maiden international conference of the UNIZIK Business School on Monday.
While Chukwuma was honoured with industrial service award, Chukwudozie was honoured with philanthropic excellence service award. Okwuosa and Okoye were honoured with; entrepreneur par excellence award and health service excellence award respectively.
The director of the school, Prof Au. Nonyelu, while presenting his welcome address, said over the years, Africa has been enmeshed with different economic and sociopolitical crisis including inequality, poverty, criminality, decreasing productivity, collapsing companies and businesses among others.
He said: "We considered it necessary to invite and honour some great entrepreneurial minds, who in spite of the vicissitudes of doing business in Africa, have crossed the threshold, and established sustainable industries.
"They are exemplary pacesetters in the drive to industrialise Africa, we shall recognise and honour them today."
Nonyelu added that because of the dearth of manufacturing, decreasing productivity and industrialisation in Africa, the continent has for long been a dumping ground for all kinds of imported goods.
This year's conference, which is its maiden one had its theme as; 'industrialising Africa: issues, problems and prospects', with sub-themes taken by eminent scholars, including; Prof Ken Amaeshi of University of Edinburgh and Prof Emmanuel Adegbite of De. Montfort University, both of United Kingdom.
