A 17-year-old school leaver (name withheld) has
been allegedly raped to death by a gang of young boys from her community,
Ogwugwu village in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The deceased, who is said to have just recently
concluded her West African Examination Council (WAEC) examination, was lured to
an uncompleted building at about 7p.m. by yet-to-known young boys from the
community.
It was gathered that the suspects, believed to be
known to the deceased, lured her to an uncompleted storey building when she was
sent to buy cassava flour (Garri) for the family's consumption for dinner.
A source from the community said: "The boys
took advantage of her innocence and lured her to an uncompleted storey building
where she was continuously raped in turns until she became weak and was gasping
for breath.
"They eventually threw her down from the
storey building so that she will not expose them after recovery."
It was however learnt that the girl died before
she was discovered by persons in the community, and her corpse has already been
deposited in an undisclosed mortuary.
When contacted, the Divisional Police Officer in charge
of Ojoto Police Division, Prince Ezejiofor, confirmed the incident, but said no
arrest has been made.
"They perpetrated the act about 7p.m. that
fateful day, but we are closing in on the suspects," he said.
Reacting to the incident, the President General of
Aboji Akanano
Union in Oba, Chief Dozie Nweke, described the
murder as wicked and gruesome.
"This is a girl who was sent to buy Garri for
her family but was killed by her own people," he lamented.
