The Lagos State Police Command on Tuesday arrested three policemen for gambling while on duty at the Opebi area of Ikeja.

The state Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, had ordered for their arrest after a video where they were allegedly counting bribes and smoking surfaced on Instagram, one of the social media platforms.

However, the CP said after their arrest and detention, preliminary investigation has revealed that the money they were seen counting in that video was not bribes collected, rather money gotten from gambling.

The statement issued by the state police public relations officer, SP Chike Oti, said the policemen were presently facing disciplinary action that might lead to dismissal.

He said: "The attention of the Lagos State Police Command has been drawn to the news making the rounds on a social media platform that policemen stationed near Opebi, Ikeja, were seen counting bribes received and smoking.

"Based on the allegation, the CP Lagos ordered for their arrest, detention and trial.

"Meanwhile, preliminary investigation into the case revealed that the men weren't counting bribes received as alleged but coupons they collected from a game of gambling they played a.k.a Baba Ijebu.

"The men are currently facing disciplinary action that could lead to reduction in rank or dismissal. It is wrong to engage in such distracting activity while on duty.

"CP Lagos encourages members of the public to always expose, albeit accurately, indisciplined and unprofessional policemen. "
