Ghanaian nationals living in Nigeria have been
charged to comply with the Nigerian Government request for e-registration for
foreign nationals to aid administrative, planning, logistical and other
purposes of the government.
The Ghanaian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Ambassador
Rashid Bawa, made the charge on Monday during this year's annual meeting of his country's
nationals under the aegis of the National Association of Ghanaian Communities
in Nigeria.
Bawa stated that: "You all must ensure you are
duly registered in your own interest, accountability and diplomatic
cover."
He announced that the Ghanaian Government had
opened two passport offices in Nigeria and South Africa where citizens could
access and obtain the national passport, saying before now, the passports were only
obtainable in Ghana.
The 14th delegates’ conference attracted delegates
from all over Nigeria.
Leader of the organisation, Mr. Frank Quaye, disclosed
that the gathering was aimed at fostering good relationship with their Nigerian
hosts and to bring all Ghanaian citizens in Nigeria together to interact, help
and assist one another.
Also, the Deputy National Secretary of the
association, Mr. Sam Kwesi Amoah, who also addressed his compatriots, said they
have been living in peace with Nigerians, while stating that he has been in
Nigeria for more than two decades.
He charged their members to continue to maintain
peaceful coexistence with their Nigerian hosts, while condemning the gale of
xenophobic attacks in South Africa.
