
Non Academic Staff Union(NASU) and Senior Staff Association
of Nigeria Universities(SSANU) in Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, and
Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), both in Anambra State have
joined the strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities
(ASUU).
Members of the unions in separate meetings on Monday in their
various institutions in the state reached the decision to join the strike.
At Ojukwu University, the Chairman of Joint Action Committee
of Trade Unions, Andrew Okeke, who addressed journalists described the strike
as total and indefinite, adding that any member of the association seen at the
three campuses of the institution would have him or herself to blame.
Also, in her statement, the Chairperson of
SSANU in Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Njideka Nwangwu, said a monitoring team of
Joint Action Committee of the institution had been deployed to monitor members.
According to Nwangwu, “The monitoring team has been
set up to monitor the activities of members, and anybody who misbehaves would
be severely dealt with.
“From tomorrow (today), no staff of these three
unions is to be seen in these campus, unless that person wants to challenge his
or her ‘chi’ in this circumstance.
“We will wait for further directives from our
national leaders, and we are not going back on the decision.”
Okeke of Ojukwu Varsity said the three campuses of the
university at Igbariam, Uli in Ihiala council area and the teaching hospital at
Awka would be closely monitored by the monitoring team set up by (JAC).
